120 occupants of a holiday center evacuated during a fire in Barvaux, a dog did not survive

It was a little after 8 p.m. on Friday February 24 when a fire broke out in the Le Mont des Pins hotel complex, a holiday center located in Bomal-sur-Ourthe, in the town of Durbuy.

The fire started at a sauna installed in a room located on the third floor in a wing of the hotel. When firefighters from the Heneco zone, assisted by firefighters from Érezée and an officer from the Luxembourg zone, arrived on the scene, the fire was fully developed in the room. The 120 occupants who were in the holiday center were evacuated and placed in another wing of the building.

The fire may have been confined to the bedroom

The fire was brought under control and limited to the bedroom, but the release of smoke did not allow the occupants of the floor to return to the bedrooms after the intervention of the firefighters. A dozen holidaymakers were able to be accommodated in other rooms in the complex. Others have been relocated to neighboring hotels, says Philippe Bontemps, the mayor of Durbuy who went there in the evening.

A hotel employee was picked up by Hamoir paramedics for a check. The emergency services were unfortunately unable to do anything to save the dog who was in the burnt room.
