120 kilos of marijuana discovered under load of toilet paper in truck

A Bulgarian truck was stopped last Friday on the Tyrolean Inntal Autobahn (A12) with around 120 kilograms of marijuana on board. This corresponds to a street value of around one million euros, the police said on Wednesday. The 47-year-old Bulgarian driver was arrested. As the Bulgarian news agency BTA reported, citing national security authorities, the driver was part of an international drug trafficking ring.

The Tyrolean executive had already received information in advance that the truck was loaded with a large amount of addictive substances. At the Langkampfen car park in the Tyrolean lowlands, the vehicle – which was loaded to the brim with toilet paper – was searched. A drug detection dog struck the area of the loading area and 110 packages containing the addictive drug were discovered – partially installed – in a hollow. The driver has already been placed in custody.

According to the BTA, other members of the drug ring were arrested. A short time later, a second semi-trailer with a secret compartment was stopped in Spain and two men aged 41 and 69 were arrested, it said. Raids were also carried out in Sishtov in north-central Bulgaria, with cash, mobile phones, laptops and illegal ammunition seized. At the Bulgarian-Turkish border, another 378 kilograms of marijuana were discovered in a truck with Turkish registration.
