The 2022 census is the national survey that is done to obtain key facts regarding demographics with the aim of improving and rethinking public policies. This edition has new features: for the first time the digital Census is incorporated to complete online; and questions on gender identity, native peoples and Afro-descendants were incorporated.
1-When is the 2022 Census carried out?
This Wednesday, May 18, from 8 a.m., the census takers will begin the operation.
2-Is the census day a holiday?
The day of the Census is considered a national holiday with all the scope of the law for workers.
3-What happens if I don’t do the 2022 Argentina Census?
Those who do not respond or lie regarding the data will have to pay a fine. This is stipulated by Resolution 35/2022 published in the Official Gazette. The minimum fine is $1,076.36, while the maximum penalty can reach $106,799.35.
4-How to do the Census online, how to obtain the receipt and what happens if I do not receive the e-mail from the digital Census
Before 8 a.m. on May 18, you must enter the https://censo.gob.ar/ and select the “Digital Census” button located in the upper right corner of the screen. Then the instructions will be followed to generate the unique code of the house. Then the questionnaire will be entered and the questions will be answered.
After answering the questions, the system will give you a six-digit alphanumeric code that is used to present to the census taker at the time of the visit. In the same way, the system will send an email to the box with which you registered, with this code. If you do not receive it, you must wait for the census taker and answer the questionnaire in the traditional format.
5-What businesses are open on census day?
Businesses and institutions such as: hospitals, health centers, service stations and pharmacies may remain open providing services. But theatrical functions, cinematographic exhibitions, sports competitions and in general all kinds of shows and public meetings in the open air or in covered venues are prohibited until 8:00 p.m. In addition, restaurants, bars, delicatessens, bakeries and all shops selling food and beverages will not be able to open until 8 p.m.
6-Are there buses, trains and transport on Census Day?
The current legislation stipulates that public transport will work with the special schedule for Sundays and holidays and will be free for all census takers.
7-Can you go out on Census Day?
Because it was a day dedicated to the census, INDEC asked not to go out on Wednesday. If you are absent on the day of the visit, the institute recommends completing the data virtually and asking the doorman of the building (or the neighbor in the case of a house) to deliver the information to the census taker.
8-Do I have to be at home if I have already completed the digital questionnaire? Should I wait for the census taker? Do I have to print the receipt of the procedure?
People must be in their home at the time of the visit because they must give the census taker the six-digit alphanumeric code.
In this sense, from INDEC they pointed out that “although the Census includes the possibility of self-censusing online, the method still considers that a census taker visits each dwelling to ensure that the entire population, households and dwellings of the Argentine territory have been counted. ”.
It is not necessary to print the proof of the procedure, just by showing it to the census taker when he visits the home, it is registered.
9-Is it necessary for the census taker to enter my home?
No. The authorities suggest that the questions be answered from the door of the house for reasons of health prevention.
10-How to recognize the census taker?
The census taker will wear a bib, a bag with the logo of the operation where they will carry the questionnaires and a credential with their name and surname that accredits them as sent by INDEC.
11- How are the children of separated parents registered?
They should be registered where they reside 4 days or more a week, even if they also have another home. If they spend a week in each household, the most correct answer, according to the INDEC recommendation, is the household in which they are on the day of the census.
12-How many questions are there?
There are, at most, 61 unique questions for all the country’s inhabitants and they are divided into two modules: the household module -related to access to services, housing characteristics, among other conditions- and that of each member of the household.
Before any queryINDEC set up a telephone help desk (0800-345-2022) which will be open from 6 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
