Two-star TNI Army general Maj. Gen. Budi Pramono succeeded in breaking the MURI record as the TNI AD soldier who has the most academic degrees and competencies in Indonesia.
Over a period of more than 30 years, Major General TNI Associate Prof. Dr. Budi Pramono, SIP, SH, MA, MM, MH, (GSC)., CIQaR., CIQnR., MOS., MCE., CIMMR., collected 12 academic degrees and competency certifications from various fields of science starting from Political Science, Science Law, Economics, and Defense and Security from well-known campuses at home and abroad.
Thanks to this achievement, the Chairman of the Indonesian Museum of World Records (MURI) Jaya Suprana handed over the MURI award certificate Number 11996/R. MURI/X/2024 to Major General Budi at the MURI Office, Jakarta, Thursday (31/10).

At the MURI charter handover ceremony, Jaya Suprana took a look at Budi’s “tricks” in collecting academic degrees behind his back.
Budi also said that he had been inspired to continue gaining knowledge since he was assigned to study at Hull University, England, in 1997 by President Prabowo Subianto, who at that time was still the Commander General (Danjen) of Kopassus. Budi, who at that time still had the rank of captain, said he received the study assignment after successfully passing a series of tests and selections within the Indonesian Army.
“The urge to gain knowledge was triggered when I received a study assignment to take a master’s degree at Hull University by General Prabowo Subianto in 1997. I was triggered because I was enthusiastic about getting that study assignment,” said Major General Budi Pramono in response to Jaya Suprana’s question.

Then, after completing his year of study in England, Budi returned to Indonesia and continued his duties as a soldier, but this did not stop him from returning to study other fields of science. As a result, Budi then received a master’s degree in Law, a master’s degree in Management, and a doctorate in Political Science in 2018.
At the MURI office, Budi said he wanted to continue gaining knowledge until he finally collected various academic degrees because he believed knowledge was the deadliest weapon. He was inspired by Nelson Mandela’s call: “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.”
Therefore, he admitted that he would not stop gaining knowledge. Even now, Major General Budi is in the process of completing his doctorate in Law. For Budi, there is no such thing as difficulty in learning. He admitted that he enjoyed his study period. As a result, he used his free time and holidays to study.

“As long as there is willingness, everything can be overcome,” said Budi, who currently serves as Special Staff to the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (KSAD).

Budi attended a series of education and courses at the Regimental Officer Advanced Course (Suslapa-II) in Australia in 1996, then at the National Security Intelligence Training Course in Taiwan in 1999. He then became the best graduate (honor graduate) while studying at the Command and General Staff College in School of General Staff and Command in Manila, Philippines in 2001.
He was further selected as a participant in the United Nations Logistics Course in Port Dickson in 2002, Austfamil Course in Laverton, Australia in 2003, and Emergency Management Australia Course in 2004. During his career, Budi entered the Air Defense Artillery (ARH) branch after graduating from Military Academy, and He served for approximately 10 years at Kostrad, then continued to the TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS).
In 2012, this two-star high-ranking officer was assigned as the Indonesian Defense Attaché (Athan) in Iran, who also supervised Iraq, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. In his assignment as athan, he received an award from the Indonesian Ambassador to Iran and also served as dean/chairman of the athan-athan association (MAAT) in Tehran, Iran. On campus, Major General Budi is currently actively teaching at the Military Law School (STHM). (I-2)
