11th Annual Symposium on Pediatric Gastroenterology: New Approaches for Treating Conditions in Puerto Rico’s Pediatric Population

The Association of gastroenterology and Pediatric Hepatology of Puerto Rico (AGHPPR) announced that it will hold its upcoming 11th Annual Symposium on gastroenterology Pediatric.

This educational event focused on guidelines for primary care of gastrointestinal conditions in childrenpromises to be a unique opportunity for health professionals.

The date of the scientific congress is Saturday, August 19, and the setting will be the Royal Sonesta Hotel San Juan. From 7 in the morning to 6 in the evening, renowned experts will address various crucial issues in the field of gastroenterology pediatric of Puerto Rico.

A prominent feature of this symposium is the ability to earn 8 continuing education credits for physicians and health professionals who attend the conferences. Registration, the cost of which varies for physicians and dietitian nutritionists, allows access to one day of up-to-date learning.

Continuing education on the gastrointestinal conditions of the pediatric population

The scientific program of this event will cover a variety of essential topics. Celiac disease and the review of its guidelines will be addressed, with the participation of Dr. José Javier Muñiz, a renowned pediatric gastroenterologist.

For her part, Dr. Eileen Lugo will delve into the review of guidelines for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, while Dr. Rosalyn Díaz, pediatric gastroenterologist, will explore guidelines related to obesity.

Programming will include discussions regarding eosinophilic esophagitis, pancreatitis, Helicobacter pylori, and pediatric malnutrition. These relevant and current issues will serve as a basis for dialogue and updating of professionals.

Dr. Leonardo Hormaza, in previous interviews for the Medicina y Salud Pública Magazine, has mentioned that in recent years he has seen “that some conditions manifest earlier than before and it is thought that it has to do with the diet and feeding of the pediatric population.

“We are 16 gastroenterologists pediatric in Puerto Rico and we attend to all kinds of problems: constipation, diarrhea and if we talk regarding chronic conditions there is Crohn’s disease, celiac disease and ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative colitis usually occurs in children small, while Crohn’s disease occurs in children bigger,” he explained.

The AGHPPR, a non-profit association whose fundamental mission is to provide evaluation and treatment of patients with various gastrointestinal and liver conditions.

In addition, the association seeks to promote collaborations with the 16 doctors involved in the care of the population of gastroenterology Pediatric Hospital on the Island.
