“11th African Land Forces Summit: Meeting Security Challenges Through Civil-Military Partnerships”

The 11th African Land Forces Summit is being held from May 8 to 12 in Côte d’Ivoire on the theme “Meeting security challenges through civil-military partnerships”, with the participation of Morocco.

This 11th African Land Forces Summit is jointly organized by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Côte d’Ivoire and the US Army, through its Southern Europe Task Force for Africa (SETAF).

According to the Chief of Staff of the Army of Côte d’Ivoire, Major General Dem Aly Justin, the objective of this 11th summit is threefold.

It is about discussing security challenges in Africa, developing complementary and collaborative solutions to shared security challenges from the various networks of partners and regional partnerships, across Africa.

“Active and competent regional organizations will be able to establish cooperative and multinational partnerships throughout Africa”, explained Major General Dem Aly Justin, during a meeting to present this meeting.

More than 300 army chiefs, experts and participants from 40 African countries and six others from Europe and the American continent are taking part in this meeting in Abidjan.

On the menu of this summit, conferences delivered by Ivorian and international specialists who will be followed by exchanges, sessions in the working committee as well as a visit to the International Academy for the Fight against Terrorism in Jacqueville.

“This summit is an opportunity for the high hierarchy of the African land forces to think up pragmatic and realistic strategies in the face of national and international security challenges”, explained the Ivorian Minister of State, Minister of Defense, Téné Birahima Ouattara, to the opening of this event.

The representative of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of Côte d’Ivoire hoped that at the end of the exchanges, relevant proposals would be made for a synergy of actions, with a view to stemming the phenomenon of terrorism and thus creating a peaceful security environment for African people.

The United States Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, Jessica Davis Ba, welcomed the holding of this summit, which will strengthen security collaboration between the land forces and the populations to ensure security. of the latter, but above all to increase the capacities of the armed forces in the management of security issues.

For his part, the Chief of Staff of the American Forces for Europe and Africa, Army General, Darryl Williams, promised that his team is ready to work with African countries to overcome the security challenges, through a solid partnership.

The African Land Forces Summit is an annual meeting held alternately in Africa or the United States.
