In the upcoming school year 2024-2025, due to a lack of students, schools will remain closed in Thessaloniki, Kilkis, Pella, Pieria, Serres, Imathia and Halkidiki.
According to the ERT report, in some cases the school units have been suspended for almost a decade, as they do not complete the required number of students.
One of the schools that will remain closed is the Eptalofou primary school, whose operation was suspended due to the lack of students. The few children in the area will be forced to go to the nearest primary school located in Efkarpia. Also, four kindergartens of the Municipality of Halkidiki suspend their operations.
In total, the operation of 118 school units has been suspended, including 36 primary schools and 82 kindergartens.
In addition to the lack of students, in some cases the suspension of the operation of a school unit was decided due to the lack of a building.
According to the report, all suspensions are for the 2024-2025 school year and will be reviewed next year.
