He is 89 years old, but he is almost as good-looking as in the old days. Alexander Shirvindt’s signature self-irony has also not faded over the years.
When concerned colleagues and fans again begin to pester the People’s Artist with questions about his well-being, Alexander Anatolyevich habitually brushes it off: “It’s just old age of moderate severity.”

In fact, Shurik from “Station for Two” has been having trouble with his heart lately. Doctors quickly determined that the artist had unstable angina, fortunately without damage to the heart muscle. It’s quite possible to live with this.
But be careful. You need to take care of yourself: no stress, no nervous worries. And in general you should rest. Moreover, Alexander Anatolyevich has done so incredibly much for Russian culture during his life that he has earned tenfold the right to proudly turn around and retire.
But it was not there! The actor persists: “Where are you going without me?”
And he goes on stage again. Not as often as in the days of blooming youth, but the audience regularly pleases.

Last summer, Shirvindt was involved in the play “Where are we?” In the fall I visited the Andrei Mironov enterprise. His stately figure constantly appears at theatrical creative evenings.
And in June last year, the Russian Academy of Cinematography presented Alexander Shirvindt with the Nika Award.

Therefore, the public was extremely surprised when last year the media “dispersed” the news that Shirvindt reacted very harshly to the phrase Andrey Makarevich (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) regarding the “yelping” towards the departed artists. Intelligent, balanced and sophisticated, as we always know him, the actor called the stars rushing abroad “shit.”
Alexander Anatolyevich himself also learned about “his” statement from the media and was surprised at first. Then he was rightly indignant.
“This is not my vocabulary,” assured the popularly beloved artist.

Shirvindt also insists that making enemies and inciting misunderstandings between people is not the right thing to do. The country has now come to a time when its citizens, on the contrary, must unite against a common enemy.

Fans of Alexander Shirvindt have always been amazed by the incredible reserve of optimism in a man whose childhood fell during the difficult, hungry war years. After all, at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the artist was seven years old.
He remembers that time very well and always willingly shares stories of the war and post-war years.

Both of his parents were at the front, but, fortunately, survived. Sasha Shirvindt did not study particularly well at school. After graduating, he entered the Shchukin School, then became an artist at Lenkom, and in 1970, fate brought him to the Satire Theater, to which he eventually devoted his entire life.
The theater, and also his family, or rather his son Misha and his only wife, whom he met as a 15-year-old boy. And I fell in love once and for all my life.
It is interesting that the son Mikhail Shirvindt inherited a very subtle sense of humor from his famous father. About the meeting of his parents, he said that dad first fell in love with a cow. More precisely, in the milk that the neighbor’s cow gave. Alexander constantly went to the neighboring yard for fresh milk, and in the end he married the daughter of the owner of the cow. Probably so that the cow is always at hand.

This is how they have lived together, hand in hand, for five decades.
Time did not spare the friends of Alexander Anatolyevich. Gradually, in his notebook there were fewer and fewer names of those with whom he could still talk.
Mikhail Derzhavin, Andrey MironovZinovy Gerdt, Eldar Ryazanov, Grigory Gorin – all of them remained only in memory.
In a rare moment of special sadness for him, Alexander Shirvindt admitted that he often dreams of Mark Zakharov and Mikhail Derzhavin. He misses them very much.
The artist did not come to the next farewell. When asked “why?” he joked as usual: “I’m saving up energy until my own funeral.”

For example, I recently went on air from a hospital ward, where I was undergoing treatment. As always, he was ironic and sincere. I thanked the doctors for their attentive attitude. He said that icons were hung in the ward, and an atmosphere of good nature and hope for the best was felt in the air.

Shirvindt honestly admitted that “he’s not fresh, of course,” and this once again amused the audience.
Alexander Anatolyevich’s assistant calmed the agitated sea of fans: “He feels good.”
The actor himself decided to give a more extensive answer to the most pressing question about his person and stated that he plans to live to 117 years. Why so many? It turns out that 116 will not be enough for him, and 118 is already too much. 117 is a beautiful number. Why not?
