The American manufacturer Trek is showing a certain dynamism when it comes to new electric bikes. In July, two urban pedelecs had been presented by the brand: the Dual Sport+ and Trek FX+, which we were able to test. A little earlier, the very high-end Fuel EXe VTTAE had also had its heyday.

This time, it’s Domane+ SLR’s turn to find itself in the media spotlight. The firm from across the Atlantic has published a post Instagram on October 13 to introduce this brand new electric road bike, once more classified in the category of premium and expensive cycles.

Less than 12 kg

The Trek Domane+ SLR stands out on one point in particular: its weight, recorded at 11.8 kilos for the lightest version. It is therefore one of the lightest electric bikes on the market, alongside the Origine Help, VELLO BIKE, Hummingbird Flax, Ducati Futa et Endurance SL e Heroto recite nobody else but them.

To do this, Trek relied on Series 800 OCLV carbon, whose manufacturing process has been patented by the manufacturer itself. The latter ensures that this carbon fiber is 30% more resistant than those previously used for its bikes, while maintaining the same level of rigidity.

Consequences: Trek uses less material, for a similar result in terms of rigidity… but a weight necessarily pulled down. The frame of the Domane+ SLR therefore impresses with its lightness: only 700 grams. The central engine HPR50 also joins this philosophy, which is listed at 1.8 kg on the scale.

With a torque of 50 Nm – we might have expected more – the engine is supported by a 350 Wh battery whose Eco mode provides assistance for 100 kilometres. The most powerful mode necessarily reduces the range of the bike. If the brand does not communicate on it, the range obtained with it is estimated at around 60 km.

The Trek Domane+ SLR is also equipped with the IsoSpeed system, which allows the “seat tube to flex according to the stresses of the road“explains the brand. “This results in a bike that moves with the road while maintaining the feel and efficiency of traditional bike design.“, we specify.

Soaring prices

According Bike Radar, two Shimano twelve-speed drivetrain choices will be available, alongside a SRAM drivetrain. In terms of tires, you will have to rely on Bontrager lifetime warranties, accompanied by Flat Mount hydraulic disc brakes. All at a price that reaches the heights.

Indeed, depending on the version, the Trek Domane+ SLR oscillates between 8,999 and 14,999 euros. Or very elitist prices that are clearly not within everyone’s reach.

The Spanish manufacturer Berria Bikes has drawn a new range of very high-end electric mountain bikes, whose prices vary between 6,500 and 10,800 euros.
