In September, the 10th Anniversary of the HWPL World Peace Summit will be celebrated in Guatemala and in various places around the world – around 122 countries. Attended by leaders from various sectors, including youth, women’s representatives and indigenous peoples, the event will take place on September 28 to commemorate a decade-long commitment to peace by global leaders and citizens, with a view to future strategies to promote global harmony.

“Since the 1980s, Guatemala has faced many ongoing challenges in civil society that have led to unrest and violence,” said Iliana Perez, HWPL representative in Guatemala. “Our goal is to create the dialogue and reflective culture toward peace that is needed to build a harmonious country. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the HWPL World Peace Summit is an opportunity to renew our commitment to the ongoing effort needed to achieve lasting peace.”

Under the theme “Building a Global Community of Peace by Fostering Global Collaboration,” local leaders in Guatemala will commit to continuing work to bring a culture of peace to Central America, with an emphasis on protecting women from sexual abuse and indigenous populations from riots and exploitation of natural resources on their local lands.

Scope

In 2014, Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), an international peace organization, brought together more than a thousand global leaders from politics, religion, women’s groups, youth organizations, and media from approximately 140 countries at the inaugural HWPL World Peace Summit in Seoul. The summit addressed issues of conflict resolution, religious harmony, and the need to implement legal instruments to build lasting peace.

HWPL notes that the purpose of the anniversary is to review achievements since 2014 and discuss future plans. The event aims to bring together regional talents and establish networks essential for tailored peace strategies, strengthening regional networks to address local threats to peace and harness collective capacities. To achieve this, various sessions led by different leaders and sectors in each country will be held.

Driven by agreements signed in 2014, over the past decade HWPL and its global partners have been committed to addressing global challenges such as military tensions, economic disputes, climate change and cyber threats through enhanced regional cooperation and collective action. HWPL is dedicated to establishing a robust peace governance framework, connecting international organizations, governments and civil societies.
