This morningthe Reuters agency reports that around a hundred female football players have sent a letter to FIFA to demand an end to the partnership signed a few months ago with Aramco, the Saudi oil giant.
Last April, FIFA and Aramco formalized an agreement signed until 2027 and including the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2027 Women’s World Cup. An agreement that had been in the works for many months, the English media The Times estimated it at 96 million euros per year a year ago.
This Monday, 106 professional players signed a letter asking the international body to “reconsider this partnership and replace Saudi Aramco with other sponsors whose values are consistent with gender equality, human rights and the secure future of our planet.”

“Athletes of the World” believes that Aramco plays a major role in worsening the climate crisis and explains that the company is 98.5% owned by Saudi Arabia, “which has a history of human rights violations against women and other minorities, including the LGBT community”
