Ten young people illegally residing in Belgium escaped this Thursday followingnoon from the Saint-Hubert detention center where they were imprisoned for narcotics charges. They managed to cut the fence, probably with a grinder, and escape into the woods.
Significant police resources were quickly deployed to try to find them, including a helicopter and a drone, in vain. A few patrols are still circulating around but the search was finally interrupted due to darkness.
“In my opinion, their intention is to hide in the woods, explains divisional commissioner Vincent Léonard, from the Semois and Lesse police zone, confirming the information published in L’Avenir. Even the helicopter with the thermal camera, it does nothing. We see a lot of game but we haven’t seen them. At the moment I am still patrolling with a quad and thermal binoculars, but the probability of finding them is relatively low.”
