A ten-year-old child was scheduled to undergo surgery to treat her rare genetic disorder. But the doctors finally declared her “inoperable”, following having postponed the medical procedure several times in the space of six months.
Eva Tennent is a 10-year-old Scottish girl who suffers from Rett syndrome, a condition that affects brain development, and advanced scoliosis. Result: his spine twists and curves dangerously to the side.
At the microphone of the BBCJill Lockhart assured that her daughter had been summoned seven times since September 2023 to undergo surgery at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Edinburgh, an NHS facility, the United Kingdom’s public health service. But every time, the operation was finally canceled.
“Without this operation, she risks dying”
The mother blames the lack of staff within the care unit which is the cause of the delays leading to the multiple cancellations of her daughter’s intervention. “She was deemed operable in September, October and November, and these operations were only canceleddue to shortage of beds and nurses […] They waited so long, and now they say it’s too late. I feel like my daughter’s chances of survival have been sacrificed.”
Little Eva was to be operated on this Thursday March 28 but this operation was also cancelled. “We were told last week that the operation might not take place”storms his mother. “If Eva had surgery, she might live another 15 to 30 years with his condition. Without this operation, she risks dying.”.
