10% of car accidents are due to tire rupture

Abu Dhabi: Accidents are on the rise due to the use of substandard and outdated tires. It is reported that 10 percent of all accidents involve tire bursts.

Those who buy and use substandard tires for profit are more at risk. Abu Dhabi police are drawing the attention of the public by releasing shocking footage of a vehicle going out of control due to a flat tire.

The risk of tire rupture increases during the summer. The main reason is the inability to survive extreme heat. Non-standard tires can also cause rapid wear and tear.

Those who do not use the vehicle regularly should check their tires at least once a month before traveling long distances. It is also advisable to change the front tires back and forth following 10,000 km.

Penalty for breaking the law

Those who cause an accident on the road with a bad tire will be fined 500 dirhams and fined 4 black points. The vehicle will be impounded for a week. A fine of one lakh dirhams will be imposed for selling substandard tires. Products of any brand must comply with Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) standards. Only buy following confirming the details on the tire.
