This action drama film based on real events during the 10 November 1945 war in Surabaya will be presented by eight friends who took part in the struggle to defend independence. The biggest and darkest revolution in the history of Indonesian war is promised to be depicted in an epic way by relying on a technical combination of real shots with a touch of advanced visual technology. This will be depicted in the film 8 Warriors.

Choose a place at the Grand Lodji house, Peneleh village, Surabaya. This is a historical village area where national figures were born, such as Soekarno, HOS Cokroaminoto, Roeslan Abdulgani, and several other figures. Golden Picture reported that in April 2024 it would begin the preparation stage for the production of a feature film in the action drama genre entitled 8 Warriors, Love and Homeland.

The film is completely based on the true story of the great war of November 10, 1945, which was fought by eight fellow fighters. It might be said that this film best represents Arek-Arek Suroboyo, who was so brave in sacrificing his life to defend Indonesia’s newly achieved independence. Foreigners called the war one of the darkest tragedies that had ever occurred. The fighters were like a huge, endless wave that continued to fight the allied troops in the city of Surabaya, causing tens of thousands of casualties and the deaths of allied high-ranking officials. This film, which is sure to be epic and colossal, was entrusted to the director duo Jaya Tamalaki & Djo Arko.

“We actually finished writing the story of this film last year. The chronology of events and the roles of other major figures are also shown in detail later in the film. The creative packaging was also made as attractive as possible so that it would be a fresh and not boring historical film to watch. The hope might be wrong “a trigger for the spirit of nationalism and love for our country in our young generation, which is currently almost degraded by the invasion of dominant foreign broadcasts which threaten our national identity, culture and nationalism,” said Jaya Tamalaki.

Meanwhile, Djo Arko, who has an eccentric appearance, said that the film 8 Warriors has a high level of difficulty that must be taken seriously. These difficulties are like bringing back the atmosphere of the city of Surabaya in the past along with the atmosphere of a major war fought by thousands of people, both on land, sea and air. This tough challenge requires a mature concept that is guaranteed to combine real shot techniques with modern visual technology or what is popularly called CGI (Computer Generated Imagery). He believes that his team will be able to realize a film that is close to the original atmosphere.

“This is what has been the problem of the lack of competitiveness in Indonesian films at the national and international level. In fact, it does not lie in human resources, but in the limited ability and courage of investors as well as the lack of reliable writers in making great works. Therefore, it is sluggish when trying to make historical films or “war. Well, the film 8 Warriors, Cinta and Tanah Air is a film that is different and dares to go once morest the grain,” added Jaya Tamalaki.

Golden Picture’s seriousness in presenting a quality national colossal film seems to have been really well prepared. Apart from recruiting a team of professional filmmakers, the company even dared to create a natural studio to build various sets in corners of the city of Surabaya and several important buildings attached to later war events. “At that time, the city of Surabaya was already dense, busy and unique. Therefore, all the prototypes we chose had to be cloned in an open studio so that they resembled the original. To build this location, we needed at least approximately 15 hectares of land. We had to make that decision, because the original location points have completely changed so they no longer meet the requirements as a shooting location,” said Anton Firmansyah as Producer.

When it was confirmed whether the film 8 Warriors was a film that required high production costs to meet the demands of the existing scenario, Reyniel Fero as the producer also confirmed this. “It’s true, the project we are currently realizing is not an ordinary film like those that have been made domestically. Of course, it automatically requires adequate costs according to the big concept. However, let’s put aside the size of the costs first, the important thing is that our priority scale target is the results of the film “This can be of great benefit, especially for the nation’s generations. Then the issue of commercial value will definitely follow if everything goes well,” said Fero.

After carrying out various visits and discussions with several national figures, historians, cultural figures, academics and other related parties, the film 8 Warriors of Love and Homeland received a positive and enthusiastic response from all groups, including great support from Prabowo Subianto when he received a visit from the production team in Hambalang last week. This makes Golden Picture even more confident in realizing this national project to its full potential.

“To remember, without the 10 November 45 war, the history of the Indonesian nation would have been different. Many are not aware of the nature of that. Therefore, we must make this film no matter what and it can give a new color to the Indonesian film industry,” concluded Jaya Tamalaki . (RO/Z-2)
