In terms of innovation, 2021 was marked by the rollout of several new features for the WhatsApp messaging app. The objective remains to offer better solutions to make it easier for everyone to get started with the application. For this new year, the developers intend to offer new features that are ever more practical and useful. Discover 10 new features that will probably land on WhatsApp in 2022.
See profile pictures in notifications
WhatsApp is working on a feature that will display profile photos in group notifications for smartphones using iOS. Thus, users will be able to directly recognize who is sending them messages in a group chat without having to enter the instant messaging application.
Delete sent messages at any time
One of the current weak points of the WhatsApp application is that users cannot delete sent messages instantly. It is necessary, in fact, to wait a little more than an hour before carrying out this operation. According to new reports made public, the developers of WhatsApp are planning to roll out a feature that removes this time limit. However, no information filters on when it can be used.
A new WhatsApp community feature
In 2022, a new community feature might be rolled out to the instant messaging app WhatsApp. It will allow administrators to create up to 10 groups within the same community and send the same message simultaneously. Another interesting point, messages within this community will be end-to-end secure. In a few months, this functionality will probably be deployed on the application.
React to messages in a conversation
Like Messenger and Instagram, it will be possible, in 2022 and on WhatsApp, to react to chat messages. According to a report by Wabetainfo, a feature is being rolled out to this effect for group or individual messages. Once deployed, it will allow you to use a total of six emojis to express your feelings. Additionally, the feature includes an option to enable/disable feedback notifications.
A feature to disconnect your account
According to Wabetainfo, WhatsApp wants to follow in the footsteps of messaging apps like Messenger and Instagram. The developers are currently working on a function to disconnect from your account when desired. Better, it will be possible to reopen the account on any device of your choice without losing your data. At the moment, the feature is in the testing phase on the beta version of WhatsApp. That said, it will soon be available on the Android and iOS versions of the application.
Hide your connection activity to certain contacts
WhatsApp developers also plan to strengthen the privacy of its users in 2022 with an interesting feature. This should allow you to hide your connection activity from certain specific contacts that you have previously chosen. In the past, a similar functionality had already been deployed on the application. The only downside is that it also prevents you from seeing the “last seen” status of these contacts.

The new feature will not only prevent certain contacts from seeing your online status. Even more, it will allow you to consult the “last seen” status of all the other contacts using the application. Currently being tested in the beta version of the application, it should be available in the coming weeks.
An Instagram reel on WhatsApp
From this year, WhatsApp may well be included in other apps owned by Meta. To do this, a feature will be developed that will allow you to view Reels on Instagram without leaving the application. For the moment, however, no date has been advanced for the deployment of this new feature.
Select recipients to share media
In 2022, WhatsApp intends to make media sharing easier for its contacts. A feature to this effect will soon be deployed on the end-to-end encrypted messaging application. This will allow you to select new recipients with whom to share photos and videos.
The “Read later” feature for messages
On the WhatsApp application, the developers plan to add an archived messages feature soon. It will allow users to stop receiving notifications for a chat once it is enabled for a chat. It should also include a “holiday mode” option that works on the same principle as archived messaging. To make all these settings, an edit button containing customization settings will be added to the application.
Subscribe to an insurance product in India
In India, the Meta-owned WhatsApp application aims to help people subscribe to insurance products more easily. To this end, partnerships are being signed with approved financial institutions. Within a few months now, it would be possible, for example, to subscribe to SBI General Sachet health insurance coverage on the application. Users in the country will also be able to subscribe to HDFC pension plans.
