Ten motorcycles that were parked in front of the Retalhuleu Health Center caught fire on Monday, August 5, after an electrical transformer short-circuited and spilled oil on the vehicles, rescuers reported.
Of the 10 motorcycles affected, eight were completely destroyed and two were damaged.
It was reported that for unknown reasons the transformer exploded and caused the fire that reached the motorcycles.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene to prevent the flames from spreading to the health centre or other nearby buildings, as the flames reached several metres in height.
It was reported that the fire was on the outside of the health center, but firefighters brought in hoses through it to extinguish the fire.
At this time, it has not been verified whether the equipment is working or whether supplies were damaged at the health center.
The electricity service is suspended in the sector, so vaccination and consultation services will be transferred to the El Pedregal Health Post, also in Retalhuleu.
