This is news that is unlikely to calm the debates on the price of games in 2023… While Mortal Kombat 1 has just been updated to expand its content, players have discovered that the new fatality was sold at a frightening price.

Mortal Kombat 1 disguises itself for Halloween

With a game so focused on violence and hemoglobin, it was impossible for Mortal Kombat 1 to skip a content update dedicated to Halloween. Last Friday, to celebrate the anticipated Horror and Spirit Festival weekend, the game published by Warner Bros. Games has in fact added a whole slew of new content around this same theme.

Among the new features, we can obviously count on new costumes like a Mexican-inspired outfit for Scorpion and a Hannibal Lecter version for Mileena, all available in several colors of course. But while these two additions are exclusive to the game’s real money store, Warner Bros. Games still chose to be a little generous by offering a new unique and free variation for Johnny Cage’s mansion landredecorated Halloween style for the occasion.

Unfortunately, their generosity has clearly reached its limits with this free addition since the big new thing does have a price. Indeed, in addition to the new outfits available in the game shop, you will also be able to afford the luxury of obtaining a brand new fatality, these famous particularly violent finishing moves that one can perform at the moment of victory to humiliate their opponent. However, if you want to take advantage of it, you will have to checkout, and suffice to say that the price is steep.

A scary price for a rotten pumpkin

In recent days, a new fatality specially designed for Halloween has been added to Mortal Kombat 1. Using the latter, you can ram your opponent’s head into a rotting, insect-infested pumpkin that you would never want near your face before slamming the whole thing into a house door; enough to collect some candy for sure. As a picture is worth a thousand words, we let you discover this little new feature in the video below.

However, if you want to take advantage of this new inevitability, you will have to spend no less than 1200 dragon crystals, the equivalent of around €10, just that. For comparison, note that most skins in the game are sold for around 500 dragon crystals, more than half the price. Obviously, it didn’t take that much for a lot of players to step up and complain regarding such an exorbitant price, especially when we take into account the fact that the game is already sold at a high price.

On Twitter and on Reddit, players are protesting en masse and calling for a boycott of Fate in order to send a message to Warner Bros. Games. If it is still a little early to know if the sales of the new fatality have been satisfactory, there is no doubt that this episode will not do any good for the reputation of the game when the developers had already attracted lightning from some players when they made it clear that certain characters would be exclusive to paid DLC…
