10 Al-Shabaab members killed in military operation in southern Somalia

Mogadishu – Ten members of the Somali Al-Shabaab movement were killed on Saturday evening during battles with the army in the Beribal area of ​​Buluburdi district in Hiraan region in the south of the country, according to the official Somali News Agency.

The agency said, “On Saturday, national and local forces launched a violent attack on a group of terrorist elements that infiltrated the Peripal area in Buluburdi district in Hiraan region.”

She added, “The battle resulted in the killing of at least 10 terrorists, while others were injured with varying degrees of severity.”

According to the agency, “army officers confirmed that they were able to expel the terrorist elements that crossed the river and entered the area, following army forces received information from local residents regarding the presence of terrorists who came from the west of the river, which prompted the command of the 27th Armored Division to move quickly and confront the infiltrating elements.”

This operation comes weeks following 47 members of the Al-Shabaab movement were killed in a military operation carried out by the army in the El Tir region in central Somalia.

For years, the Somali government has been waging a war once morest the Al-Shabaab movement, which was founded in early 2004 and has claimed responsibility for bombings that have killed civilians and members of the army and police.

Government forces expelled the movement’s elements from major cities in 2012 and 2012, but it remains spread across large rural areas.
