A day following the investigation into the 10.29 disaster by the Police Special Investigation Headquarters ended, the bereaved families held their third civil memorial ceremony in the rain.
Minister of Public Administration and Security Lee Sang-min, National Police Agency Commissioner Yoon Hee-geun, and Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon strongly opposed the so-called police investigation that did not reach the top.

His teenage son died 43 days following being rescued from the site of the disaster.

“My beloved son, Jaehyun. When I think of your last 43 days, my heart hurts so much. To think that Jaehyun would forget the deaths of his friends in a month and return to the old days, I’m sorry daddy for not knowing how you feel. ”
The bereaved families strongly criticized the results of the police special investigation headquarters announced the day before.
Lee Sang-min, Minister of Public Administration and Security, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, and National Police Agency Commissioner Yoon Hee-geun, called for a thorough investigation by the prosecution, saying it was a “tail-cutting investigation” that failed to hold the so-called higher-ups accountable.

“As we feared, it clearly shows the limits of ‘self-investigation’ that cannot even attempt an investigation of the upper line.”
The families of the bereaved also strongly criticized yesterday for Bank of Korea Governor Lee Chang-yong’s mention of the disaster as one of the reasons for the poor economic indicators in the fourth quarter of last year.
The bereaved families demanded an apology, saying they were blaming the victims for the economic slump.
The Citizens’ Countermeasures Meeting for the October 29 Disaster will set the period from the 30th to the 5th of next month, the 100th day of the disaster, as an intensive memorial period, and plan to hold a memorial service in downtown Seoul on the 4th of next month.
