**Interview with Nusron Wahid, Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us, Minister Nusron Wahid. Your recent announcement about the 1.3 million hectares of state-owned land that remains illegal is quite significant. Could you elaborate on the implications of this finding?
**Minister Wahid:** Thank you for having me. Yes, we’re facing a critical issue with approximately 1.3 million hectares of state-owned lands considered illegal. This land represents an untapped resource that we can manage more effectively to support various national priorities, including infrastructure, food self-sufficiency, and energy self-sufficiency.
**Editor:** You mentioned the need to encourage the use of this land. What specific steps will your agency take to facilitate this process?
**Minister Wahid:** Our immediate priority is to establish a land acquisition committee that will oversee projects aimed at infrastructure development. This committee will ensure that land acquisitions are conducted transparently and efficiently. Additionally, we are exploring ways to utilize the land not just for industrial purposes but also for agricultural development, which is vital for enhancing our food security.
**Editor:** How does this initiative align with Indonesia’s broader goals of energy and food self-sufficiency?
**Minister Wahid:** The land we are discussing has the potential to significantly contribute to our energy and food self-sufficiency initiatives. For example, certain areas can be transformed into rice fields or gardens, thus supporting our agricultural needs. The energy sector can also benefit by utilizing land for crop cultivation that feeds into renewable energy projects.
**Editor:** You mentioned the possibility of needing more land beyond the 1.3 million hectares. Can you provide more details on how this additional land can be accessed?
**Minister Wahid:** Certainly. We have about 70 million hectares of land outside the forest that could potentially be mobilized for various development projects. If we find that additional land is necessary beyond the 1.3 million hectares, we will explore these other areas diligently. This comprehensive approach is crucial for balanced development and maximization of our natural resources.
**Editor:** Thank you, Minister Wahid. This initiative sounds promising and vital for the nation’s development. We look forward to seeing the impact of these efforts in the near future.
**Minister Wahid:** Thank you for the opportunity to discuss this important issue. We are committed to making progress and supporting our nation’s needs through effective land management.
