The largest ‘pink diamond’ has been unearthed in Angola in southwestern Africa in 300 years.

According to the Associated Press on the 27th (local time), diamond company Lucappa announced on its website that it had found a pink diamond called ‘Rulo Rose’ in its Angola Lulo alluvial diamond mine. Pinkish diamonds are so precious that only regarding 1 in 10,000 are found.

In addition, Lukapa said that at least 27 diamonds over 100 carats have been mined at the Lulo mine. The pink diamond unearthed this time is the fifth-largest diamond ever mined at the mine.

This diamond is a ‘2a’ type that does not contain impurities such as nitrogen, and is expected to be sold at a very high price at auction.

A 132-carat pink diamond was sold for $71.2 million (regarding 93 billion won) at an auction in Hong Kong in 2017, foreign media reported.

The auction will be held internationally through Sodiam, an Angola state-owned diamond marketing company. The marketing firm ranks in the top 10 in the world for diamond production thanks to its Angola mines.
