0:5 – Black Wings suffered a heavy defeat at the DEL2 champion

Not a good day for the Linz ice hockey goalies. While Thomas Höneckl was replaced by backup Florian Vorauer by team manager Roger Bader after 20 minutes of play and three goals conceded in the final Olympic qualifier match against Hungary, the young Martin Reder had to concede five goals in his debut for the Black Wings. The Linz team lost the friendly match against DEL2 champions Eisbären Regensburg by a clear 0:5.

Philipp Lukas gave Logan Roe, Sean Collins and Andreas Kristler a break. Nico Feldner was missing due to injury, Rasmus Tirronen acted as backup. The Linz team started quite promisingly and missed several opportunities to take the lead. On the other hand, Reder’s defense held out against Regensburg’s attacks for the time being. At least for the time being, because in the 22nd minute the home team began to take advantage of their chances.

Olle Liss (formerly with Dornbirn) scored to give them the lead, but Linz did not deviate from the match plan and continued to be the more active team. Brian Lebler missed a counterattack in the 30th minute, but missed. Regensburg, meanwhile, remained ice cold. Corey Trivino (formerly with Znojmo and Villach) scored in a three-on-one counterattack to make it 2-0. The Black Wings did not give up after that and had several opportunities while they were in the majority, while Sandro Mayr of the hosts had to watch for 2 plus 2 minutes for a foul and unsportsmanlike conduct. Instead of scoring a goal, Linz conceded 0-3 after a cross pass from Marvin Schmid was deflected past Reder into the goal by a stick blade.

The visibly frustrated guests were unable to score anything until the end of the game. Regensburg scored again after a double exclusion against Linz through Liss, Yuma Grimm scored to make the final score 0:5. The next test match follows on Wednesday at home against Budweis, tickets are available at tickets.blackwings.at.
