The crew of the film “”RMN” by Romanian Cristian Mungiu walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, on Saturday in the second half of the evening, as part of the official screening of the feature film, selected in competition. Co-produced by “Les Films du Fleuve”, a production company run by the Dardenne brothers, it is one of twenty-one films in the running for the Palme d’Or. this time with a family drama shot in Transylvania. Matthias is back in his multi-ethnic hometown following quitting his job in Germany. He worries regarding his son, who grew up without him, and also wants to see Csilla, his ex-girlfriend. When the factory she runs decides to recruit foreign employees, the peace of the small community is disturbed. Filmed from November 2021 to January 2022, RMN questions the dilemmas of today’s society: solidarity in the face of individualism, tolerance once morest selfishness, political correctness once morest sincerity. Discovered in 2002 at the Directors’ Fortnight with his first film “Occident”, Cristian Mungiu had notably won the Palme d’Or for “4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days” in 2007, the screenplay and interpretation prizes for ” Beyond the hills” in 2012 and the prize for directing for “Baccalauréat” in 2016.
