0% to 100% in 15 minutes

Oppo unveils its 150 W SuperVOOC charger at the end of the MWC. It makes an impression with its ability to charge a battery from 0% to 100% in just 15 minutes. The Chinese manufacturer is constantly pushing the limits in terms of charging speed.

The Oppo SuperVOOC 150W, ultra fast charging

Oppo is one of the pioneers to promote fast charging on its smartphones. Already in 2014, the Find 7 accepted 20 W charging. After that, the manufacturer transferred the basics of VOOC technology under the label Dash Charge. For the past two years, its high-end and mid-range smartphones have benefited from Oppo’s 65W SuperVOOC. Other than that, the same is true on OnePlus and Realme branded devices.

Last year, Oppo introduced 125W fast charging, but few smartphones used the technology. For this year, the Chinese firm presents us with the 150 W SuperVOOC. This version promises a full charge of a 4500 mAh battery in just 15 minutes. This is twice the time needed for the 150 W SuperVOOC. The most tantalizing fact is in the time it takes to reach 50%. Indeed, 5 minutes are enough for the new Oppo charger to get there.

The technologies and algorithms put into action

Charging at such speed might rapidly deteriorate the battery. In order to increase its lifespan, Oppo introduces the BHE (Battery Health Engine) function. The latter uses Oppo’s battery management chip and maximizes battery safety and longevity. It improves the underlying algorithm and even the chemical system of the element structure. In addition to the BHE, Oppo also relies on the “Smart Battery Health Algorithm”.

We will have to wait until the second half of this year to see the first smartphone equipped with SuperVOOC 150 W. On the other hand, Oppo will give this privilege to a OnePlus smartphone. The brand is still silent on the model concerned, but we expect a mid-range smartphone. It might be the Nord series, the latter comes in the best mobiles at affordable prices. And its association with this charger should push it to the fore.

Supported by the BHE, Oppo promises to be able to maintain 80% of the initial capacity of a battery following 1600 charge cycles. As a reminder, the current standard for smartphones on the market reaches around 800 charge cycles.

Several manufacturers are experimenting with systems similar to Oppo. In 2021, Infinix offered a smartphone equipped with a 160 W charger. Awaiting a revolution in terms of batteries, the engineers’ research is prioritizing the field of fast charging.
