The MQ-1C Warrior is a combat drone developed by General Atomics for the US Army. He is sometimes called Sky Warrior. It is derived from the M/RQ-1 Predator

Development

In 2002, the US Army launched a call for tenders for an ERMP (Extended-Range Multi-Purpose = Long Range Multi Role) drone, with the objective of replacing the MQ-5 Hunter. Two planes were proposed: an improved version of the MQ-5 Hunter and the Warrior which won the tender in August 2005 with a contract of 214M$. The US Army intends to order 11 systems, each consisting of 12 Warrior aircraft and 5 ground control stations. The US Army intended to use the designation MQ-12 for the device, but the US Department of Defense retained MQ-1C.

Conception

The Warrior is of the MALE type (Medium Altitude (Altitude is the vertical elevation of a place or object relative to a level…) Long Endurance (Endurance is the ability to maintain over time a certain level of intensity…) = Average (The average is a statistical measurement characterizing the elements of a set of…) Altitude and Long Range) with an increased scope. Its engine is a “Centurion” Heavy Fuel Engine (HFE) turboprop developed by the company Thielert which gives better performance at high altitude, better reliability (A system is reliable when the probability of fulfilling its mission over a period of time…) and easier maintenance. It has an autonomy of 36 hours (The hour is a unit of measurement:).

The nose (The nose (from the Latin nasus) is in humans the median protrusion of the face located above …) of the airplane (An airplane, according to the official definition of the Civil Aviation Organization international…) has been extended to house a Synthetic Aperture Radar. An AN/AAS-32 multi-spectral target acquisition system is also carried under the nose of the aircraft. The Warrior carries a load of 1,280 kg. It can be armed with AGM-114 Hellfire air-to-surface missiles and GBU-44/B Viper Strike guided bombs.
