The Alma bridge is a bridge located in Paris, and spans the Seine. Its name recalls the Battle of Alma (1854) in Crimea.
This site is served by the Alma – Marceau metro station.
Zouave and crues
There is, on the only pile resting in the water (Water is a ubiquitous chemical compound on the Earth, essential for all …), upstream side, the statue of a standing Zouave erected in 1856, which serves as a popular instrument for measuring the floods of the Seine. When the level of the Seine reaches the feet of this Zouave, the waterways on the banks are generally closed. When the water rises to the thighs of the Zouave, the Seine is no longer navigable. During the historic flood of 1910, the water rose up to the shoulders.
The zouave is higher than originally, following its raising in 1970 removing all meaning from it. At the same benchmark, the floods it reports are more serious. The administration measures the flood level at the Tournelle bridge.

The Alma Bridge is located near the tunnel where the Princess of Wales (Lady Di) died (Death is the final state of a biological organism that ceases to live (even if…) in August 1997. This tunnel, often called the Pont de l’Alma tunnel, is in fact between the bridge and the Place de l’Alma.Overlooking this tunnel, stands the Flame of Liberty, a life-size replica of the flame of the Statue of Liberty. This monument, donated by the International Herald Tribune newspaper in 1987, commemorates Franco-American friendship and thanks France for the restoration of the Statue of Liberty. It was diverted from its original function and spontaneously became a place of contemplation for admirers of the late Princess. The official monument commemorating the death of the Princess is, in fact, in a garden in the Marais district (In geography, a marsh is a type of landscape formation, with little relief…).
History
The bridge was built from 1854 to 1856 under the direction of Gariel. It was inaugurated by Napoleon III on April 2, 1856 (initially its inauguration was planned for the 1855 exhibition) the piles are decorated with 4 statues – a zouave and a grenadier sculpted by Georges Diebolt, a hunter on foot and an artilleryman sculpted by Arnaud — representing four regiments that fought valiantly in the Crimean War. Le Chasseur à pied is visible from the freeway (A freeway is a road reserved for the circulation of fast motorized vehicles…) A4 once morest the wall (A wall is a solid structure that separates or delimits two spaces.) south (The south is a cardinal point, opposite to north.) of the Gravelle redoubt in the Bois de Vincennes, the Grenadier is in Dijon, the birthplace of its sculptor, and the Artilleryman was offered and transferred to La Fère (department of l ‘Aisne), city (The city (Latin civitas) is a word designating, in Antiquity before the…) dear to the hearts of artillerymen, where the 41st Marine Artillery Regiment was located until 1993 .
For the Universal Exhibition of 1900, the bridge was doubled upstream by a footbridge, known as the Alma footbridge.
From 1970 to 1974, the bridge was completely replaced, due to its narrowness and settling. Only the Zouave is preserved (but not on the same side).
