???? This NASA animation visualizes the magnitude of the ocean’s rise

NASA has just unveiled an animation illustrating the magnitude of the rise of the oceans in recent decades. The animation is by Andrew J. Christensen, a data visualization specialist at NASA. By animating observed changes in global sea level captured by satellites (Satellite may refer to:) in orbit 2022, the illustration transforms a complex cluster of numbers into a clearly understandable sequence.

Over the past 30 years, sea levels have risen by ten centimeters. This may seem small, about the length of a hand (The hand is the prehensile effector organ located at…), but when these changes are visualized as water hitting a window (In architecture and construction, a window is a bay, an opening in a wall or a section…) of a ship (A ship is a boat intended for maritime navigation, that is to say planned…), they take on a dimension (In the sense common, the notion of dimension refers to the size; the dimensions of a very concrete…) (The concrete is a more or less hard paste obtained after extraction of a…).

The consequences of greenhouse gas emissions are today felt by coastal communities around the world. Millions of people are expected to be affected by rising waters that will cause coastlines to disappear unless emissions are drastically reduced.

To help us visualize these upheavals, NASA describes this animation as a view through the porthole of a boat (A boat is a human construction capable of floating on water and moving there,…) which would remain motionless, making it possible to observe the rise in sea level over all these years.

According to NASA’s Earth Science Division Director Karen St. Germain, “We have a clear view of the recent rise in the level of the sea – and we can better project how the oceans (Oceans stylized Ωceans is a French documentary directed by …) will continue to rise”. To make projections, data (In information technology (IT), a datum is often an elementary description…) are integrated into global climate models that try to reconcile a multitude of elements.

The major problem of climate change is to synthesize the data and communicate its meaning to the whole world. Global warming will have the greatest impact on those who are least responsible for it.
