???? Dogs are able to listen to you while they sleep

Our canine friends have been surprising us for a long time, particularly with their ability to interpret our emotions and our language. A team of researchers recently sought to learn more regarding their ability to hear and interpret sounds during sleep. This study reveals that even when asleep, dogs are able to distinguish whether a noise (In its common sense, the word noise is close to the main meaning of the word sound….) comes from a human or another dog (The dog (Canis lupus familiaris) is a domestic mammal of the family Canidae,…), and manage to interpret the associated emotion.

As part of this study, scientists from Loránd-Eötvös University (Budapest, Hungary) broadcast recordings of non-verbal vocalizations of humans and dogs to 13 dogs during their phase (The word phase can have several meanings, it used in several areas and…) of wakefulness, drowsiness and non-paradoxical sleep. By connecting the animals to an electroencephalogram via surface electrodes, the researchers were able to measure the waves. producing in its path a reversible variation…) cerebral linked to each sound event.

Different sounds were then emitted, all at the same volume for a duration of approximately one second (Second is the feminine of the adjective second, which comes immediately following the first or which…). It might be laughter, cough (Cough is a sudden and often repetitive spasmodic contraction of the cavity…), sighs or yawns, but also yelps, moans or grunts. Result: the dogs produced neuronal responses to each stimulus, whether they were awake, drowsy or in non-REM sleep (with intensities and times (Time is a concept developed by humans to understand… ) response variables).

Thus, even in the middle of sleep, the dogs seemed to be able to differentiate whether it was a noise made by a human or a dog, but also the emotion associated with it (positive or neutral communication). The result of this experiment, published in Scientific Reports, demonstrates that these animals are equipped with complex auditory processing.

Similar tests had previously been carried out on mice and primates (primates (from the Latin primas, atis meaning “the one who occupies first…) (including humans), and we would also be endowed with the same capacity. This possibility of perceiving and interpreting sounds during our sleep depends on several parameters, such as the type of noise and the depth of sleep in particular. Thus, we would be able to be attentive to any noise (All understood as a set of what exists is often interpreted as the world or…) while sleeping (Dormant), and this ability improves when a message (Information theory was developed to mathematically determine the rate…) is addressed to us directly (when we hear our first name in particular).

However, additional research will be necessary to confirm these initial conclusions, in particular by expanding the number of animals participating in the trials. However, these initial results already add to an ever-growing list of similarities in sleep behavior between dogs and humans. ).
