The Times reported on the 26th that Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of the Chechen Autonomous Republic, known as a close aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, announced his intention to join the Russian invasion of Ukraine during an armed protest in the capital Grozny, the British daily The Times reported on the 26th.

Kadyrov said that following a prayer meeting the day before, he held a protest with around 10,000 militia members and said the militia might serve in Ukraine’s most battled areas.

He said the militia had not yet been dispatched, but said he was ready to carry out any orders and might call in an additional 70,000 volunteers.

“President Zelensky (Ukraine) should call our president, Supreme Commander Putin, as soon as possible and ask for forgiveness,” Kadyrov said.

The Kadyrov militia is an armed group wholly loyal to Kadyrov, and has been forged in battle for many years. They have been notorious for ruthless human rights violations, particularly torture and lawless murder.

The Kadyrov militia is also known to have served in the Syrian and Georgian wars of 2008.
