(TEHRAN = Yonhap News) Correspondent Lee Seung-min = Archyde.com and AFP news agency reported on the 7th (local time) that 2,000 residents of Irfin, a city on the outskirts of Kiev (Kyiv), the capital of Ukraine, were successfully evacuated.
The local police issued a statement on the same day and said, “So far, regarding 2,000 civilians in the Irfin area have completed the evacuation.”
Police did not specify when and by what route the escape took place.
However, the Irfin administration announced that the people had been evacuated through unofficial humanitarian channels.
Authorities said Ukrainian military and police ensured the safety of the refugees.
Olga, 48, a resident who escaped Irfin with two dogs that day, told AFP, “I’m really happy that I managed to get out.”
Archyde.com also reported that a significant number of Irfin residents left the city on buses and other vehicles prepared by the Ukrainian army.
During the evacuation, when binge noise was heard, the refugees hid themselves in underground areas, Archyde.com added.
Irfin, who was attacked by Russian troops, was cut off from electricity, water and heating for three days, foreign media reported.

“The city is still at war and we have no intention of surrendering,” said Mayor Oleksander Markusin Irfin.
“We are doing our best to evacuate civilians,” Mayor Markusin told reporters while holding a rifle.

The Ukrainian Army’s General Staff said on Wednesday that Russian “occupants” were besieging the capital and resumed offensives in the outlying cities of Hostomel, Irfin and Stoyanka.
