At least three shells were also fired in the city center of Donetsk, the capital of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), also controlled by the rebels, the news agency reported.
According to DPR, 12 rounds of 122mm shells were dropped on the city, saying the government forces used the BM-21 ‘Grade’ (hail) multiple rockets for the first time since 2018 in the attack on Donetsk on the same day.
There were also reports that a journalist covering the scene of the conflict was caught in the bombardment.
Citing a report by the Donetsk News Agency (DNA) in the Donetsk rebel region, Russia’s TAS news agency said that four journalists from the United States and Russia were bombarded by Ukrainian forces while covering the scene of a vehicle bombing on a highway in Donetsk.
Fortunately, the shells deflected and all four journalists were unharmed.
“There was a sound like a whistle of a bullet flying in and there was an explosion,” American freelance journalist Patrick Lancaster told Russian news agency Sputnik.
