Tottenham have signed French defender Langley from Barcelona on loan. This is the fifth reinforcement this summer and the first signing of a centre-back.

[골닷컴] Reporter Dong-Hoon Kang = Tottenham Hotspur, a professional football club in England, are continuing their storm with their fifth signing this summer. He finally strengthened his centre-back position by signing Clement Langley (27) from Barcelona (Spain) on loan.

Tottenham Hotspur announced on the club’s official website on the 9th (Korean time) that “Langlée has been signed on loan for one season.” According to several local reports, Tottenham have agreed to pay 5 million euros (regarding 6.8 billion won) in rent and 130,000 euros (regarding 176 million won) in weekly wages. A full transfer option was not included.

Tottenham Hotspur’s top priority this summer was reinforcing centre-backs. Except for Eric Dier (28) and Christian Romero (24), the skills of the rest of the players are lacking, and coach Antonio Conte (52, Italy) strongly wanted to reorganize the defensive line.

In particular, he focused on recruiting a left-footed centre-back who can play the role of a left stopper in the three-back. In fact, following the summer transfer window opened, he showed interest in Alessandro Bastoni (23, Inter Milan), Josko Gbardiol (20, Leipzig) and Pau Torres (25, Villarreal). However, it has been unsuccessful due to difficulties in negotiations over and over once more.

Tottenham turned their attention to Langlet, which was their last option. At the same time, Barcelona announced the release of a large number of out-of-power players, and Langley was included among them, so negotiations went smoothly. However, Tottenham decided that a skill check was necessary rather than a full transfer, so they pursued a loan deal and concluded the deal.

Langlet made his professional debut at AS Nancy (France), then went to Seville (Spain) before wearing a Barcelona jersey in the summer of 2018. At the same time as the transfer, he established himself as a regular and took responsibility for the rear. He showed good form with his devoted defense and stable rear build-up.

However, in recent years, problems have appeared in various places, as his speed and instantaneous reaction speed have significantly decreased in the past few years. Therefore, some are concerned regarding whether they can adapt to the Premier League stage, which is characterized by a fast tempo.
