Last July, a road near Anseong City Hall in Gyeonggi-do.
A woman takes a taxi and tells her to go to the Wongok 119 Safety Center.
Upon arriving at the destination, a woman waits for a taxi and approaches by a black car.
After talking to the driver, he handed him a shopping bag.
The woman gets back into the taxi and carefully examines the inside of her shopping bag and pulls out some cash.
After a while, a taxi arrives at a rest stop, and police officers rush in and surround the woman.
The woman caught by the police is a collection book that brought the money stolen by voice phishing.
The person who reported it was the driver of the taxi this woman was riding in.
After taking this woman in a taxi, the taxi driver asked why she was going to her destination and was told that she had to get money from investors.
The taxi driver, doubtful regarding receiving the investment directly in cash, called 112 while the woman got off her destination for a while.
The taxi driver became convinced of voice phishing when the woman who got on board changed the destination from Pyeongtaek to Hanam.
I called the police once more and pretended to be talking to my brother so the woman didn’t notice.
“We went while talking like a play. As we were talking like that, now he (the police) asks for the car color and number, and he says things like, ‘If you want to buy a car, OOO white is the best’…”
After completing the second report, the taxi driver led the police to the Anseong rest area so that the police might arrest the woman.
He said to the woman, “Let’s have a cup of coffee and go”, and headed to the rest area.
“Is it okay if I come over for a cup of coffee? (Yes, it’s okay.)”
The arrested woman was playing a role of collecting cash from a victim who was deceived by a voice phishing call saying, “To get a low-interest loan, you must pay off your existing loan first.”
The amount confiscated by the police at the scene amounted to 46 million won.
Anseong Police Station, Gyeonggi-do, selected a taxi driver who reported a voice phishing cash collection plan to the police as a ‘phishing keeper’ and awarded a letter of appreciation.
