(Seoul = Yonhap News) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was on the verge of assassination at least three times last week, the British daily The Times reported on the 3rd (local time).
The Russian-backed Wagner Group and Chechen special forces attempted to assassinate President Zelensky, but the operation failed due to information leaked from inside the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), the newspaper reported.
Chechen special forces attempted an assassination on the outskirts of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, but were removed by Ukrainian security authorities, and the Wagner group is said to have suffered some damage in the assassination attempt.
Olegsi Danilov, secretary-general of the National Defense Security Council, said that the assassination plans were informed by FSB agents who oppose the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
However, there are about 400 Russian assassination mercenaries active in the capital, Kiiu alone, and officials believe that they will try to assassinate again soon.
In the midst of this, Russia is leaking information that President Zelensky has already left Kii, but Zelensky is denying the ‘escape’ by filming his office and making it public.
Meanwhile, NATO rejected a request to designate Ukraine as a no-fly zone to prevent Russian airstrikes on the 4th (local time).
