[영상] Buildings and bridges collapsed, train derailed due to 6.8 earthquake in Taiwan

(Seoul = Yonhap News) A magnitude 6.8 earthquake occurred in eastern Taiwan at 2:44 pm (local time) on the 18th.

Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said that the epicenter of the earthquake was located in Chishang, Taitung County, in southeastern Taiwan.

In the eastern Hualien Yuli region, a maximum seismic intensity of ‘6’ was measured, and in the central Nantou County of Yushan (玉山), a seismic intensity of 5 was measured.

The epicenter is 23.14 degrees north latitude and 121.2 degrees east longitude, and the depth of the earthquake is 7 km.

Taiwanese broadcasters reported that at 2:44 pm on the same day, the three-story building with a 7-Eleven convenience store on the first floor of the Hualen Yuli district collapsed at 2:44 pm and 8 people were trapped. It was said that people were rescued.

In addition, the ceiling of the East Hualien Dongli Railway Station platform collapsed, train No. 420 with 20 people on board derailed, and two bridges in the Hualien area and part of an elementary school building collapsed.
