[스포츠타임] ‘186.8 billion’ cut Corea… “It was a shock, every doctor is different.”

[스포티비뉴스=김민경 기자 / 김한림 영상기자] It took a full month to go to the press conference to join. Shortstop free agent Carlos Correa (29) has completed a contract with the Minnesota Twins.

Minnesota announced on the 12th (Korean time) that it had signed a free agency contract with Corea for a total of $200 million for a six-year contract. The guarantee is smaller than the 10-year, $285 million Minnesota initial offer to Correa.

Instead, Minnesota bet health as an option. After the 6-year contract, the contract is extended by 1-year increments for the next 4 years. Correa might earn up to $270 million over 10 years if he completes the club’s plate appearances without injury or wins an individual award.

Correa’s past month has been eventful, literally. Early last month, he shook off Minnesota’s offer and agreed to a 13-year, $350 million contract with the San Francisco Giants, seemingly hitting the FA jackpot, but failed to pass the medical test and the contract was cancelled. Correa immediately signed a 12-year, $315 million contract with the New York Mets and thought he was going to pass the hurdle, but as expected, there was a problem in the medical test.

In the end, Correa had to join hands with Minnesota on the condition that 150 million dollars, 186.8 billion won in our money, was cut from the contract in San Francisco, which offered the largest amount.

San Francisco and the Mets took issue with Correa’s injured leg in the minor leagues in 2014, but Correa said there were no problems so far and that all training was normal this winter.

Correa pledged to play an active part in Minnesota, saying at the press conference that day, “It was shocking, and I learned this time that each doctor has a different opinion,” but “many doctors told me that I was fine.”
