[사회]Tomorrow, four police officers, including Lee Im-jae, are at a fork in the road to arrest… Special edition investigation ‘watershed’

[앵커]

Tomorrow, four police suspects, including Lee Im-jae, former chief of Yongsan Police Station in Seoul, will stand at a crossroads in arrest.

It is expected to be a watershed between the investigation of the National Police Agency’s Special Investigation Headquarters and whether to expand the investigation of the top line.

Yes, this is the Special Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency.

A substantive review of arrest warrants for four police officers will be held tomorrow?

[기자]

Yes, starting at 2:00 pm tomorrow, the Seoul Western District Court will conduct interrogation of the suspect before arrest for 4 police officers.

Lee Im-jae, former chief of Yongsan Police Station, Park Seong-min, former head of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Public Security Information Department, Yongsan Police Station’s information manager, and 112 situation chief were arrested at a crossroads.

Former chief Lee and the head of the Yongsan Police Station 112 Situation Department were charged with increasing the loss of life through inappropriate post-war measures, as they were the people responsible for the safety measures in Itaewon on the day of the disaster and the command of the on-site police.

In addition, Park is accused of instructing the head of the front-line information department, and the head of the Yongsan-seo information department, to his subordinates to delete the Halloween risk analysis report, respectively, in preparation for inspections and seizures.

The special edition believes that many of these charges have been clarified, and as they have always denied the charges, there are also concerns about destroying evidence such as matching words.

It is expected that the result will come out late tomorrow night, with the prosecution and the former chief Lee and other police officials expected to be fierce over the need for arrest.

Depending on the results of the warrant review, will the special script investigation also face a major watershed?

[기자]

Yes, if the special edition secures new recruits such as former chief Lee Im-jae, the investigation is expected to gain more momentum.

Along with this, we plan to apply for additional arrest warrants for the remaining main suspects tomorrow at the earliest.

In particular, Park Hee-young, head of the Yongsan-gu Office in Seoul, and Choi Seong-beom, head of the Yongsan Fire Station, who have been responsible for primary disaster management and rescue, have been cited as representatives of the charges in several investigations.

However, failure to secure new recruits, such as the former chief, will inevitably disrupt the investigation into the special edition.

In particular, it is not likely to be easy to expand the investigation of the top line.

The special edition, which previously summoned and investigated Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Kim Kwang-ho as a suspect, is reviewing additional investigations while looking into the contents of Commissioner Kim’s investigation over the weekend.

This week, a full-scale investigation into the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Ministry of Public Administration and Security has been announced.

However, if this attempt to secure new recruits fails, it is expected that it will not be easy to expand the investigation to the upper ranks as we will have to review whether to reapply for a warrant and receive an interim report card that the investigation was poor.

Until now, we have been told by the Special Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency.
