[인포스탁데일리=김영택 기자] ‘Apple Pay’, Apple’s contactless easy payment service, is expected to launch official service in Korea sometime next week.
According to the financial sector and simple payment industry, Apple and Hyundai Card are in the process of finalizing the release of Apple Pay with the goal of launching the service in Korea on the 21st of this month.
Both companies set the beginning of this month as the target date for service launch. However, it is said that the schedule has been delayed due to issues such as the supply of compatible terminals.
It is said that the two companies are preferentially distributing compatible terminals, centering on retail franchises such as major convenience stores, large coffee shops, and some large marts across the country.
Meanwhile, the issuance of Hyundai Card to service Apple Pay in Korea is increasing. In particular, the MZ generation is preparing to use Apple Pay by creating a check card.
When Apple Pay is commercialized in earnest, Hyundai Card issuance is expected to increase further.
As of January, the number of check cards available for Hyundai Card stood at 162,000, a 7.28% increase from the end of December.
During the same period, the growth rate of other credit card companies was -2.21~0.67%.
