Lee Gun-joo (43), a child actor and singer known for his role as Sundori in the 1990s drama “Three Families Under One Roof,” has received a divine blessing to become a shaman.
Lee Gun-joo officially began his journey as a shaman by undergoing a ritual conducted by his new father, Gangnam Do-won, during a ceremony held in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province on the 2nd. They formed “new brotherhood” with Ham Soo-hyun, a banker-turned-shaman who gained recognition for his appearance on the SBS entertainment show “Possessing Romance.”

Lee Jianzhu mentioned in a phone interview with Daily Economic News’ Today’s Star on the 6th: “For a long time, people have asked me why I didn’t embrace God, but I ignored their concerns and persevered. Ultimately, God came to me due to my mental health struggles.”
“Since last year, I have been grappling with severe and overwhelming depression. Every time I look out the window, I feel an urge to jump, yet I can’t control my emotions. Living feels unbearable, but when I sought guidance, I was told, ‘You should have died long ago.’ Strangely, that’s when my work stopped… Despite my family’s strong objections, I ultimately chose to accept my fate.”

The family had sensed something was amiss with Lee Jianzhu, but they did their best to pretend they hadn’t noticed. They were strongly opposed to his decision to become a shaman, particularly because of his parents’ divorce and his aunt, who had cared for him since he was six, being even more resistant.
Lee Jianzhu stated, “The aunt who raised me is also destined for blessings, but I was reminded of my nephew, who played the role of ‘Sundori,’ so I refused and cried throughout my life. It felt like it was closing in on me.”
“In fact, my family has roots in shamanism. My great-grandmother was a shaman, and my grandfather built a temple and conducted exorcisms. However, I am not into fortune-telling; I practice Buddhism. I occasionally visit the temple to pray… The teachers remarked, ‘He has kicked the ball on his head,’ saying that if he hadn’t, he would be in great trouble.’ After accepting my fate, I feel vastly more at ease.”

It is said that on the day of Nailingut, everyone had to witness him riding on a pole while waving a fan and bells.
On that day, Lee Jianzhu’s performance astonished those present. “I revealed the personal stories of everyone there, and before I knew it, I acted as if I were possessed, speaking countless words. Everyone acknowledged it,” he recounted.
He is a promising Trot star who earned the nickname “Trot Sundol” after showcasing remarkable talent in the 2020 MBN Trot audition “Voice Trot.” He also shared updates about his new song project and expressed his desire to remain involved in entertainment activities.
“Today, we live in an era where there is much less resistance to shamanism. I opened a new temple in Samseong-dong and began a new chapter in my life, but I wish to quietly complete the two lives that have been bestowed upon me.”
