[기자수첩] Renewable energy, spring comes after winter |

[이투뉴스] Almost a month has already passed since the first sunrise of Gapjin Year. Contrary to the industry’s promise to make a leap forward, each day is passing quietly. There is a saying that no news is good news, but it is no exaggeration to say that the past year has been literally the worst year for the renewable energy industry.

The industry atmosphere is clearly revealed at the New Year event. While all energy industry associations and organizations are holding events such as New Year’s celebrations, the renewable energy industry is so gloomy that it is omitted. It is said that departments related to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy are becoming departments avoided by bureaucrats.

Renewable energy such as solar power and wind power, and industries such as hydrogen and fuel cell (new energy), which can play a big role in linking and utilizing renewable energy, are making efforts to send positive messages such as ‘this is the way to go anyway’ and ‘global energy transition is the trend’. I am masturbating, but the reality right now is not easy.

In recent years, the renewable energy industry has been complaining that it is difficult to continue like this. In particular, last year was more difficult than ever as various audits continued across government agencies and private companies. In addition, tasks including renewable energy output control remain unfinished until this year, and the lack of mobility and charging infrastructure for hydrogen as well as the inability to secure a place to use it has delayed the operation of all three liquefaction plants that were supposed to begin commercial operation last year.

There were also expectations that the enforcement of the Distributed Energy Special Act would bring a positive wind to the industry. However, there are few views that see this as a positive sign of entering a new market. We approached it thinking of it as a market that would create new food, but in reality, competition from existing traditional energy businesses awaits. Small and medium-sized businesses are difficult competitors to compete with. It is not in the same weight class as large cogeneration and power generation companies.

The government, which is suffering from various audits, is also facing difficulties in expectations. As the central government has implemented a policy to reduce renewable energy over the past few years, some local governments are also withdrawing plans to expand the supply of renewable energy. This is in contrast to the fact that the world is racing to dramatically increase renewable energy. If the renewable energy industry dries up to its roots like this, it will be of no use no matter how large the market opens in the future.

The domestic renewable energy industry is in the midst of a harsh winter. Even reporters who are not directly employed are getting used to the cold. But you can’t just whine. Korea is a country with four distinct seasons. After winter, spring always comes, and after spring, summer always comes. As the harsh winter passes, the renewable energy industry also believes that spring will come soon.
