The 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China, China’s largest political event held every five years, opens tomorrow (16th).

As Xi Jinping’s third term of office has been virtually confirmed, some point out that it will be a timid coronation.

The 20th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which was first held in Shanghai in 1921, is just a day away.

Representatives elected from all over the country also gathered in Beijing one after another.

2,296 of the 96.71 million Communist Party members, or 7% of the 1.4 billion Chinese population.

The congress will be held for one week, starting with General Secretary Xi Jinping’s work report.

Representatives ratify the amendment to the Party Constitution (immediately), and about 200 members of the Central Committee are elected.

The Central Committee is the highest decision-making body second to the party congress, and holds seven plenary sessions in five years.

The first meeting, held immediately after the closing of the party congress, elects party leaders, including the next general secretary.

This is the moment when the Politburo Standing Committee members (7-9 members) who will lead China over the next five years will be revealed.

As Xi Jinping’s third term of office has been virtually confirmed, the question is whether he will hold power comparable to that of Mao Zedong.

As it is an event that breaks the custom of changing factions within the party every 10 years and advances to Xi Jinping’s long-term reign, there are rumors that it will be a spoiled coronation ceremony.
