The World Health Organization (WHO) is debating whether to declare a public health emergency related to the rapid increase in monkeypox patients.

A final decision will be announced within a few days.

In the United States, where the number of patients with monkeypox is rapidly increasing in addition to the re-spread of Corona 19, the number of cases of polio in nine years is also increasing, raising tensions.

Residents of California and Oregon holding signs such as “Monkeypox Vaccine Support, Tomorrow is Late” are in full swing to urge the central government to provide a vaccine quickly.

Some state legislatures are also calling for a declaration of emergency as monkeypox cases have risen sharply, with more than 120 cases in Los Angeles and 30 in Oregon.

Monkey smallpox, which was endemic to Africa, started to be confirmed in each country in May, and since then, more than 15,000 cases have occurred in more than 70 countries, AFP news agency reported.

The World Health Organization (WHO) held another expert meeting after last month to decide whether to declare a public health emergency like the corona crisis after the number of monkey pox patients more than fivefold in a month.

At the meeting, after reviewing the regional situation and the issue of LGBT stigma, the decision was put on hold, and the WHO Secretary-General decided to announce the state of emergency within a few days, foreign media reported.

Meanwhile, in New York, where the number of patients with monkeypox is rapidly increasing along with the re-spread of COVID-19, tensions are rising as polio patients, a highly contagious viral disease, have also occurred.

New York State’s Rockland County Health Department has issued a polio advisory to local residents after a Rockland resident, an unvaccinated 20-year-old man, has contracted polio.

The last case of polio in the United States was in 1979, and this is the first time since 2013 that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed it.
