US approves 140 billion won military technical assistance to Taiwan

A war of nerves between the United States and China is escalating amid the prospect of a video conference between the leaders at the end of this month.
The US has re-entered the disputed South China Sea and granted military technical assistance to Taiwan.

The US Navy’s 6,900-ton class destroyer, the Benfold.
The US 7th Fleet announced that the Benfold had entered the South China Sea, a disputed territory between China and Southeast Asian countries.
This operation is the second in a week following the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea on the 12th.
Prior to this, the Chinese foreign minister warned the US Secretary of State, who had met face-to-face for the first time in eight months, not to underestimate China’s will to defend its territory, but the US did not care.

In addition, the United States has approved the provision of military and technical assistance to Taiwan worth $108 million and 140 billion won.
According to Taiwan’s request, we have decided to provide parts and technical support for tank and combat vehicle repair, spare parts purchase and assembly, etc.
It is also interpreted as a response to China’s armed protests by introducing fighter jets into Taiwan’s air defense identification zone.
A video conference between President Biden and President Xi Jinping is expected to take place at the end of this month.
