McDonald’s closed 850 stores across Russia on March 14, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, saying it was unable to operate normally.
Then, in the middle of last month, it announced its withdrawal from the Russian market and the sale of its assets in Russia.
In response, a local businessman who had been running 25 McDonald’s stores under a license agreement in Siberia decided to take over all businesses.
The company plans to reopen more than a dozen stores in Moscow and surrounding areas under the new brand this Sunday.
McDonald’s first opened its first store in Pushkin Square in downtown Moscow in January 1990, during the Soviet era, and has continued to expand its business network since then.
It was a symbol of capitalism flowing into the communist state of the Soviet Union.
McDonald’s has gained a lot of popularity due to its relatively low prices and high-quality service.
It has grown to become the largest taxpayer in Russia’s mass catering sector, accounting for 25% of total tax revenues in the catering sector.
However, in the followingmath of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he eventually left Russia following 32 years.
