Middle Eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt also criticized Israel’s hardline response.

Since the launch of the far-right Netanyahu government at the end of last year, the conflict between the two sides has been growing day by day.

As of April, more than 1,000 Palestinians were detained in Israel without formal prosecution or trial, the highest in 20 years, an Israeli human rights group said.
