[국제]Macau’s confirmed cases soar…

[앵커]

In Macau, which has implemented a strong zero-corona policy, the number of confirmed COVID-19 patients has recently increased, and the entire resident test has been conducted once more for the first time in 8 months.

Residents are increasingly concerned regarding whether the entire city may be under lockdown like in Shanghai, China a few months ago.

Macau, which has been evaluated as a corona-free area while maintaining double-digit cumulative confirmed cases,

However, as regarding 10 people were infected in the middle of last month, a PCR test was immediately conducted on 660,000 people.

As more than 70 confirmed cases came out of the total test that was resumed following eight months, the authorities are continuing an additional full investigation.

Analysts suggest that Macau, which had closed its borders for over two years while adhering to a strong ‘zero corona’ policy, recently opened its doors to foreigners who received work permits, which is the cause of the spread of Corona 19.

As confirmed cases occurred one following another in a full investigation of all residents, the Macau government expanded its self-test.

After self-examination on a set date, instructions were given to register the results in the health code assigned to the individual.

Health codes must be carried to enter public transport and shops.

Public institutions such as schools and banks were closed, and in some areas where there were a lot of confirmed cases, a ‘going restraint order’ was issued.

There are also voices of concern that the entire city may be closed like in Shanghai, China in April.

As residents worried regarding the blockade of the city went to stock up on daily necessities, toilet paper and bottled water were once out of stock.

Multi-use facilities, such as hair salons and swimming pools, have been banned from business, and restaurants are only available for take-out and delivery orders, leaving merchants frustrated.

It was expected that quarantine regulations would be eased this year, but the reins of the quarantine are expected to tighten for the time being as the number of confirmed cases continues.
