[국제]Japan brought in by the Ukrainian refugee government’s private jet… A stone to advance into the ‘permanent member country’?

[앵커]

The Japanese government has given 20 Ukrainian refugees an unprecedented treatment, bringing them on a government plane.

It is interpreted as an intention to spread the image of Japan as a developed country that values humanitarianism to the international community, which is aiming to advance into a permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Correspondent Lee Kyung-ah from Tokyo reports.

For those unable to find transportation to evacuate here, Japan is the first country to provide a private jet for the government.

It is extremely rare for Japan to treat refugees in conflict zones overseas like this.

In response, the Japanese government said that it would allow them to stay in Korea for one year and provide support for living and employment.

However, the probability that Ukrainian refugees will flee to Japan, far away from Europe, is not very high.

Since the crisis, Japan has accepted more than 400 refugees.

The move to actively support a small number of refugees is interpreted as an attempt to spread the image of Japan as an advanced country that values humanitarianism.
