[국제]Fearless deer churning roads in Japan… Accidents occur one after another during the ‘breeding season’

[앵커]

These days, Japan’s Hokkaido region is suffering from deer.

This is because deer in the breeding season run wildly from roads to railroad tracks, causing major and minor accidents.

Correspondent Lee Kyung-ah from Tokyo reports.

A deer suddenly appeared from the left side of the road.

It drives without regard for surrounding vehicles.

Then, excitedly, he changed direction and ran, crashed into the fence and collapsed.

The deer eventually crossed the road and jumped into the lake.

“There are a lot of (deer)…”

A group of dozens of deer cross the road with a frightening force.

The sudden appearance of deer leads to major and minor accidents.

On the 26th, on a national highway in eastern Hokkaido, a vehicle that hit a deer jumped into the road and collided with a vehicle in the opposite lane, killing two people.

Not only on the road, but also on the train, which resulted in disruption of service.

Last year, there were about 4,000 deer-related accidents in Hokkaido.

Of these, the largest number of accidents (22%) occur in October because of the deer’s ecology.

Drivers to and from the area will not be able to relax until the ferocious breeding season deer activity subsides.
