A town in Tabara, northwestern Spain, where firefighters and residents have been fighting for days to stop a wildfire.

As the fire approaches the village with strong winds, the residents are harvesting the hard-grown crops in advance and sprinkling water to prevent the fire from spreading to the house.

Meanwhile, a villager drove out an excavator.

This is to prevent the fire from spreading by digging a trench to create a stop line.

But the raging flames quickly engulfed the excavator as it raced across the field, leaving the flames behind.

A few seconds following the excavator disappeared completely into the flames, the villager was caught on camera as he made a desperate escape through the flames.

The man jumped and fell, but got up and ran, with his clothes almost stripped off and his pants still on fire.

This man, whom the foreign press called the ‘excavator hero’, was Angel Martin Arjonaro, who runs a construction material warehouse, and was immediately taken to the hospital with severe burns.
